UPI Enhances Digital Payments in 2025 with Exciting New Features

In 2025, UPI is rolling out several game-changing features to further enhance the digital payments experience for users. Key updates include:

  • WhatsApp Pay Now Available for All Indian Users
Following a major update in December 2024, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) lifted the user onboarding cap on WhatsApp, giving access to UPI payments for WhatsApp’s entire user base in India—approximately 596.6 million people. This expansion makes UPI transactions via WhatsApp more accessible, simplifying payments for millions of users.

  • Cashback for International Purchases with RuPay Cards
RuPay JCB cardholders can now enjoy 25% cashback on Point-of-Sale (PoS) transactions when shopping in countries like Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The cashback, credited in Indian Rupees, comes with no minimum transaction limit but is capped at ₹3,000 per transaction and a maximum of ₹15,000 during the eligible period (October 30, 2024, to January 29, 2025).

  • UPI Expands to More Countries for Indian Travelers
UPI continues its global expansion, allowing Indian travelers to make payments abroad. France, Nepal, and Qatar joined the list of countries where UPI is accepted in 2024, with France marking the launch of UPI at the Eiffel Tower. Countries like Bhutan, Mauritius, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the UAE are also part of this network, providing more convenience for Indian travelers.

  • UPI One World Wallet for International Tourists in India
A new addition, the UPI One World Wallet, allows international tourists to make seamless payments across India by scanning QR codes. The wallet ensures compliance with foreign exchange regulations and offers the option to transfer any unused balance back to the original payment source. Tourists can easily complete the KYC process with just their passport and visa, making it simpler to get started.

These updates mark a major leap forward in UPI's mission to offer seamless, global payment solutions.
